The construction of the Golf resort on Srđ will not harm the protected historical center of Dubrovnik. That stands, how we unofficially found out, in the report of the delegation of UNESCO, which visited Dubrovnik in October 2015 in accordance with the resolutions adopted by the UNESCO World Heritage Committee of the 38th session in June 2014 in Doha. The report that arrived yesterday in Croatia, broke out the last trump of political forces, most of all to KLBG ‘’Srđ je Grad’’, which are opposing the construction of this complex.

Besides that, UNESCO inspectors in the report point out that the ‘Society of Friends of Dubrovnik Heritage’ renewed cultural heritage with inadequate materials and with inadequate technique and they recommend that Orlando's Column should be urgently rehabilitated. They took note of the situation of the historic port within the walls. They consider that expansion of the Port Gruž reduced the number of passengers, who are disembarking from the cruise ships in the old Port, and that additional efforts should be invested in that direction and also, they are supporting the project of pier bellow Lazareti. Unofficially, in terms of Dubrovnik, UNESCO intends to expand the protection zone also to the area of Gruž.

Ivan Kusalić about the positive opinion of UNESCO, regarding the golf project:

The Claim to the UNESCO was malicious and it brought harm to the CITY

The opinion of UNESCO World Heritage department, by which the construction of the golf resort on Srđ will not harm the protected historical part of Dubrovnik, is commented for Dubrovnikpress.hr by the proxy of Razvoj golf, Ivan Kusalić.

For us, opinion of the UNESCO is expected because from all conducted studies regarding the project it is clear that the Razvoj golf, from the beginning is planning and developing the Project by respecting the valuable Dubrovnik heritage, and that we have been respecting all strict criteria placed on front of us from the beginning. The claim to the UNESCO, which was submitted by the “Srđ je Grad” was extremely malicious because it’s clear now, that they, who were claiming to work in the interest of the City, brought harm to the City and to the investor too. Still, the biggest harm is inflicted to the City of Dubrovnik by their flat statements – Kusalić says. He announced the soon beginning of the realization of the first phase of the golf project on Srđ.

We could start the construction already in October  this year and we are facing the new challenges because for the realization of the Project it is important that City of Dubrovnik implement some processes and bring important decisions, which are primarily related to the planning of the public facilities on Srđ that are planned in the Project and that are in the competence of the local government. The investor will do everything that is necessary in order to speed up procedures for the further realization of the Project – says Ivan Kusalić, proxy of the Company Razvoj golf.

For the comment of UNESCO report, coordinator of ‘’Srđ je Grad’’, Duro Capor for Dubrovnikpress.hr is unavailable for now.
